This LiPF6-based electrolyte solution is widely used as the electrolyte for lithium-ion batteries. It is composed of high-purity LiPF6 salt, distilled organic carbonate solvents, and some additives. The blending is performed in a dry room to confirm that moisture and acid are well in control. The acid and moisture content are tested before packaging it in a fluorinated HDPE bottle or an aluminum bottle, which is then sealed with an aluminum plastic bag.
The electrolyte has the following formula:
- Electrolyte salt: 1M LiPF6 (~12.5% by weight);
- Solvent: EC:EMC=3:7 (by weight);
- Additive: 1% VC.
The electrolyte formula is suitable for the evaluation of most of the energy storage materials for lithium-ion batteries. It can be used for coin cells, pouch cells, cylindrical cells, and other types of lithium-ion cells. For a test of cathode material, it is strongly suggested not to charge the cell above 4.2V vs. lithium. Electrolyte with a custom formula is available. There are a bunch of electrolyte additives to choose from. All are battery-grade with high purity.
